Henry struggles with his past and his identity in solitary confinement.

Director Statement

Solitary was one of a series of monologues I produced as part of the Octopus Film Group in Brighton. I wrote and directed this one and we shot it in the old police cells underneath Brighton Town Hall. I wanted to explore different ways of blurring the link between sound and visuals, moving their sync in and out, along with other techniques to reflect the internal state of a murderer forced to confront himself in solitary confinement. Iā€™m interested in how film can express internal states rather than objectivity and this was an early attempt at exploring that kind of filmmaking.
