Director Statement
Solitary was one of a series of monologues I produced as part of the Octopus Film Group in Brighton. I wrote and directed this one and we shot it in the old police cells underneath Brighton Town Hall. I wanted to explore different ways of blurring the link between sound and visuals, moving their sync in and out, along with other techniques to reflect the internal state of a murderer forced to confront himself in solitary confinement. Iām interested in how film can express internal states rather than objectivity and this was an early attempt at exploring that kind of filmmaking.
